Toonda Cultural Community Center is dedicated to uplifting the rural communities of Uganda through our three main pillars: Women Empowerment, Education, and Arts & Culture. Join us in our mission to create a sustainable and inclusive future. In the village of Kyakataama, 30 km from Fort Portal, Toonda provides a meeting point for the community with a performance stage, a library and meeting cafe, an office, a kitchen and a green outdoor space for sports and discussions. EDUCATION With the support of over 60 generous private sponsors, we are able to send 78 children to primary and senior school. The older ones tutor the younger onces in the holidays and on weekends to share their knowledge. Next to that we provide a range of extracurricular classes and workshops for all ages, including writing and reading sessions for illiteratate community members both young and old. Our library also hosts engaging book clubs to foster a love of reading. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT 80 single mothers, without a stable income, who often have to provide for their children alone, come together at Toonda to actively and collectively support their own future and that of their families. With support from Toonda, they have established various groups: sewing, basket weaving, and catering for functions. The women’s group is registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO). The handcrafted items from the women can be purchased at the Library Café on-site.
