GLOFAN Agro Business Solutions produce organic cassava products by multiplying fast maturing and high yielding cassava varieties for sale to farmers to improve crop production and boost value addition. The problem I am solving is that small holder farmers/peasants plant inferior cassava varieties that yield between 5 – 10 tubers, taking 24 months to mature, as opposed to 30 tubers from superior varieties that mature in just 9 – 12 months. With the superior varieties that we have as our product, a farmer produces 15 tons per acre in a year as opposed to the struggling 5 tons from the traditional stem got in two years. I am also solving the problem of youth un-employment, food and nutritional insecurities and low house hold income. The superior variety therefore saves the farmers time and increases productivity more than five times the usual one. On the other hand, the superior variety is drought resistant. Engaging farmers in high quality cassava value chain addition. We intend to turn around cassava, which traditionally is regarded as a poor a mans crop, onto a high value crop. Cassava value chain processing will be supplemented with wheat to capture the lucrative market of Chapatti and Rolex eating youth and community in the country.
