ABOUT US

Our Story

Nakiyimba Josephine and her little sister Nakibuule Sarah were raised by a single mother. As a tailor, she had to cater for all financial responsibilities on her own, with just one single sewing machine. Being the first born of the family with five young siblings, Josephine had to support the family at a young age. She tried hard to learn sewing in order to support her mother. Unfortunately, they lost their mother when they were ten and six. They were taken to Kankobe Children’s Home, where they faced many struggles. In spite of these hardships, they never gave up and always had hope that their lives will change for the better. This is why they chose the Lugandan name “kusuubira”(in short: ssuubi), meaning “hope.” The mission of Kusuubira is to create change in the lives of women, in the hope that young marginalized girls and women don’t have to experience the what Josephine and Sarah went through.
