We work with a network of smallholder farmers (SHF) to undertake turkey production and value chain management as a business so as to increase
consumption of it in all households and institutions, all year round. Farmers are formed into a group of ten and they elect their leader for easy communication
and facilitation.
Each of the farmer member raises about 6 turkey hens and one turkey tom. All the fertilized eggs from the hens are collected and brought to our centre for
hatching. Instead of hens incubating and brooding poults (baby turkeys) naturally which would mean less production because of the time taken in the
incubation and then brooding of the poults.
We raise turkey poults, for the first two months in our special house when the birds are most vulnerable so we take up the most delicate part that makes turkey
rearing seem to be difficult. We then loan out the poults to the SHF members so that they can continue raising them for another four months before bringing
them back to the centre for value addition and marketing.
As a social enterprise, we address the issue of poor income for the rural population as our main aim.
