It also aims at improving access by the smallerholder coffee farmers in Ssunga community to technical coffee expertise and sustainable high value market thus restoring their dignity.
How they do it
As an Institute we have improved on our farming practices, improved the quality of coffee at the processing level and developed lasting market linkages.
We also educate smallholder coffee farmers in the community on improved coffee production practices that adds value and also connect them to better markets.
Where are they located
Ssunga,Masaka, Uganda
Problem Statement
Despite the fact that the Sisters of IHMR have been growing coffee for more than 20 years, the income generated from the coffee has remained low.
This has been mainly due to limited knowledge about improved coffee production, low/or no value addition and limited access to high value markets.
The same problem is faced by the smallerholder coffee farmers in Ssunga community where the project is established.
Solution description
The Institute has engaged in high quality coffee production on the availabile land of 20 acres, with improved farming practices so as to add a value which will attract high income.
Beneficiaries of the Social Enterprise
The main ones are the IHMR Sisters commonly known as the Ggogonya Sisters and the Local Smallholder Coffee farmers in Ssunga community.
